En 1571, el Papa Pío V ordenó organizar la celebración de la victoria española en la Batalla de Lepanto. Lo curioso de todo esto, es que lo hizo unos días antes de que la noticia llegara a Roma, y lo hizo basándose en un presentimiento.

En una ocasión, durante la campaña en Italia, Patton visitó un hospital en el que se recuperaban soldados de EEUU heridos. Uno de ellos le dijo cuando lo tenía cerca: "No lo soporto más", refiriéndose al combate y la guerra. Aún siendo un hombre herido en un hospital, Patton le llamó "bastardo cobarde" y entre gritos e insultos hizo que lo sacaran de allí porque no merecía estar al lado de soldados valientes.
